David Miller Art
Original paintings, prints and commissions available from one of the UK’s leading marine artists – game, coarse and marine fish, sea birds and mammals, all inspired by a passion for the natural world and over 30 years of fieldwork.
I have been working as a professional artist since 1988, painting mostly British wildlife, especially game, coarse and marine fish, sea birds and waders.
My obsession with the underwater world was initially inspired by a boyhood passion for angling. Now I regularly dive in British rivers, lakes, gravel pits and the seas surrounding my home near Pembrokeshire in search of my subjects.
I hope to incorporate the sense of light and wonder that I experience in this often unseen world into my paintings and I am continually striving towards sharing my love of this magical environment with others.
In 2008 I had my first book published. ‘Beneath the Surface’ contains many of my well known paintings as well as new images and photographs especially produced for the book. In it I describe my life both as an angler and as a painter, providing insights into how I construct and produce my paintings.
My work has featured in numerous publications as well as being used on the EA rod licence for a number of years. In 2014 the Royal Mail published a set of postage stamps featuring my artwork highlighting sustainable and endangered marine fish in the UK.
In recent years I have been referred to as the ‘Puffin Man’ by friends and colleagues, having appeared swimming with these wonderful birds in and under the waters around Skomer Island on both The One Show with Miranda Krestovnikoff and in the BBC’s ‘Wales, Land of the Wild’.
