Sandra Vick Ltd
Sandra Vick’s paintings are inspired by the ability of bird watchers to identify a bird just from its silhouette and recent movements. Her distinctive black and white paintings capture the essence of UK birds. She translates these paintings into designs for her ‘made in UK’ range of products.
Based in Scotland, just south of Edinburgh, Sandra spends her time out in her garden, in the woodlands, in the Pentland hills and on East Lothian beaches observing and drawing birds. She builds up a sense of the way birds move and socialise to help with building up the composition of her paintings. She removes all colour to capture just the essence of the birds accurate enough to be identified. Mostly Sandra concentrates on UK birds that she can observe locally over time. Her interest in birds and their identification was sparked years ago by her BTO volunteer father in law, who when on walks, would identify birds without being able to see their plumage colours. All of her paintings are passed by her father-in-law for identification before they are declared finished!
Since graduating with a postgraduate masters degree in Fine Art from Edinburgh College of Art, Sandra has been an artist for over 15 years. Her award winning work is in corporate and domestic collections worldwide. All original paintings displayed here are for sale, and many are available as artist prints from her website www.sandravick.co.uk.
In order to bring art and nature into all homes, she has also translated these images into designs for her range of gift and home ware for all budgets. This year her long-tailed tit range was shortlisted for gift of the year, and she won an award at the British Craft Trade Fair. She’s also delighted to be hosting a pop up in John Lewis, Glasgow in October and December this year. All products are available online at www.sandravick.co.uk or from retail outlets across the UK.
